Kamil Piotrowicz Sextet is a band playing improvised music based on original compositions by Kamil Piotrowicz. He treats jazz as a creative point of going out. The band consists of representatives of the Polish jazz scene of the young generation. Their repertoire combines elements of contemporary music, minimalism, pop and Polish folk.
Kamil Piotrowicz leads the band, giving them the freedom to roam far and wide, always finding their way back to the core of the melody. What is important to him is both micro and macro thinking, contrasts, lack of artistic compromises and shortcuts. In order to define the music of a sextet, new terms are needed and a move beyond the framework of jazz towards improvised or creative music. The band’s previous releases, i.e. “Product Placement” (2018) and “Popular Music” (2016), were nominated for the Fryderyk award in the Jazz Album of the Year category in the years of their release.
Songs from the new album “Werid Heaven” (2022) had their premiere at the Jazztopad festival in New York; the band performed at the most important Polish festivals, also gave concerts in European countries and beyond (Africa, Tanzania).
