The group plays the music that combines jazz, ethno and improvisation. The band’s music is mainly the compositions of the leader, who since 2015 has been conducting intercultural music projects based on the idea that you can grow up and live far away from each other and carry out artistic activities together, understand each other on the level of art and thus become closer to each other. CULTURAL CONCEPT is just such a concept combining ethnic elements in music based on improvisation, elements of jazz and ethno music. The band includes musicians from four geographically distant countries: Poland, Senegal and Taiwan. The intercultural formation presents songs written for ethnic instruments: matoquin, kora, erhu. Musicians playing exotic instruments appear in the company of Polish jazz instrumentalists.
Kandara Diebaté comes from a family of Griots (musicians and storytellers) from the Mandingue tribe in southern Senegal. Griots are West African musicians and storytellers who pass on their knowledge of the history of the country, village, families and kings from father to son. Kandara is the son of the Senegalese kora master Boubacar Diabate, to whom he dedicated his last album. From an early age, he has been singing, playing the kora, djembe, bass drums and soruba. In her Griot tradition, Kandara Diebaté writes and sings about current social issues, the tension between tradition and modernity, and the opportunities and threats for African cultural identities. In Senegal, he founded various instrumental bands. He has been living in Germany since 2001 and has since taught many Djembé courses. He plays with the bands “Kaira Tilo”, “Nomad” and in the Orchestra of Cultures. Outside of Africa, he has performed at many festivals in Canada, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Poland.
Przemysław Strączek’s intercultural projects have already become known to a wider audience. Together with Asian Strings Collective, an album was released titled “Three Continents”, which received many positive reviews in the music industry press. The bands PS & Asian Strings Collective and East Meets East Quartet with the famous improviser from Shanghai, Xu Fengxia, gained recognition not only in Poland but also abroad, as evidenced by invitations to concert tours in Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, China). The musicians have performed in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, playing at festivals at Shaw Foundation Stage (Singapore), 1500 Tons Festival (Shanghai, Museum of Modern Arts, Power Station) and CCOM World & Jazz Music Festival (Beijing, Central Conservatory).
