Kolos, an album that we’ve been talking about for many years, about Jorgos ‘childhood memories, about Antonis’ inspirations. In music full of improvisation, soul, rhythm and blues and folk resonate, a bit acoustically, a bit electronically. Some of the texts are the stanzas of Greek folk songs remembered from childhood, others are the poetry of Cavafis. All the music is ours, composed, improvised and recorded live.
Jorgos Skolias – one of the most original singers of Polish music. His talent was appreciated, among others, by Jarosław Bester, inviting you to collaborate on the album “Book of Angels: Balan” (released by New York’s Tzadik Records by John Zorn) or Bracia Olesiowie, with whom he created the unusual trio Sefardix.
His parents were Greek political refugees. He grew up in a multinational and very diverse cultural environment. He participated in Greek minority parties, not necessarily dealing exclusively with Greek music, but trying to sing rock and blues.
In 2013, the album “Sefardix” was released by the For Tune publishing house, which is a record of a joint project by Skolias and the brothers Marcin and Bartłomiej Oleśio, inspired by the music of Sephardic Jews. This disc won the title of the “Folk Phonogram of the Year” awarded by the Second Program of Polish Radio.
Jorgos Skolias is a musician who is constantly looking not only for an individual formula for the use of the human voice in music. He studies ancient vocal techniques. As one of the few singers in the world, he mastered the technique of harmonic singing – leading three voices in parallel.
In the seventies he began working with the then very active rock and blues community in Wrocław. He collaborated with the bands “Nurt”, “Grupa 1111”, “Spisek Szeście”.
He started his professional career in 1982 in the jazz rock formation “KRZAK”. For over a year he collaborated with the “Osjan” group. From 1988 to 1991 he was a permanent vocalist of the formation “Young Power” – one of the key groups of Polish young jazz of the late 1980s.
He experimented musically in bands formed with Radosław Nowakowski (drummer of the band “Osjan”), groups “Tie Break”, “Pick Up”, “Free Cooperation”, with Tomasz Stańko, Terje Rypdal, Nikos Touliatos, Bronisław Duży, Bogdan Hołownia, Zbigniew Namysłowski or Krzysztof Knittel. Over the years he has been active in the field of theater and film music.
