The Maciej Kitajewski Trio band was founded in 2020 on the initiative of double bassist Maciej Kitajewski. It is a jazz piano trio, which, apart from the leader, includes Franciszek Raczkowski (piano) and Szymon Madej (drums). In January 2021, they were the winners of the Institute of Music and Dance competition „Jazz Phonographic Debut”, which resulted in the album „Longing Miniatures”.
The album contains eight songs: six of the leader’s original compositions and two arrangements of compositions by other authors. The music is mainly inspired by European jazz and classical music. The songs are kept in the convention of simple, minimalist themes contrasting with the free improvisations of each member of the trio. The songs were created during the difficult pandemic period, when the whole world was waiting for the reopening, hence the title of the album „Longing Miniatures”.
The premiere concert took place as part of the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days festival at the Stodoła club in Warsaw in July 2021. The band later played many other concerts, including: at the Jazz Juniors festival in Krakow as part of a collaboration with the Slovenian saxophonist Jure Pukl, who lives in New York, or at the Bass&Beat Festival in Wrocław.
In 2022, Maciej Kitajewski was nominated for the Fryderyk 2022 award in the Phonographic Debut of the Year – Jazz category.
